For your journey from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast, you’ll start at one of Sydney's three main commercial airports. Planning your departure from these key hubs will ensure a smooth start to your travel.
Sydney Airports
Sydney Airport (SYD)
Situated just 8 kilometres south of the city centre, Sydney Airport is Australia’s busiest airport and a primary hub for domestic and international flights. It offers extensive public transport connections, including train services directly to the city, and numerous options for car hire and taxi ranks.
Western Sydney Airport (WSI)
This new airport, located in Badgerys Creek, serves the growing Western Sydney region. While it's a future travel hub, it's not yet operational for commercial flights, so your Sydney departure will be from another airport for now.
Bankstown Airport (BWK)
Primarily catering to general aviation, flight training, and charter services, Bankstown Airport is located approximately 22 kilometres south-west of the Sydney CBD. It does not typically serve scheduled commercial passenger flights for routes like Sydney to Maroochydore.
Newcastle Airport (NTL)
Located about a two-hour drive north of Sydney, Newcastle Airport serves the Hunter region. While it offers commercial flights, it is not within the Sydney metropolitan area and would generally not be considered a Sydney departure point.
