Going to and from the airports

Flights from Sydney

The harbour city of Sydney is Australia's largest and oldest cosmopolitan city. It's also home to the longest continuously operated commercial airport in the world–Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport. This airport serves as the country's primary international gateway and links the city to several international, domestic and regional destinations, meaning it handles flights from Sydney to Brisbane as well.

The airport has won several awards and was most recently recognised as one of the Top Ten International Airports in 2016 by Condé Nast Traveller. It houses three passenger terminals. Terminal 1 is the international terminal, while terminals 2 and 3 are for domestic flights.

Directions to Sydney airport

Sydney's main airport is located roughly 8 km from its central business district. There are several transport options to choose from to get you from your starting point in the city to the airport. Shuttles, taxis and even limousines provide door-to-door transfers. Local buses run on a timetabled service, and to reach the arrivals level of the domestic terminals, you can take Route 400.

Underneath Sydney Airport there are Airport Link rail lines that are part of the city's suburban network. These are located below the international terminal and under the car park between terminals 2 and 3.

Reaching Brisbane

Though popularly regarded as the gateway to Queensland, Brisbane has plenty to offer visitors staying in the city. In its cultural precinct is the most visited art gallery in Australia, the Gallery of Modern Art, alongside the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Queensland Museum and Sciencentre. There are several dining districts to explore from Fortitude Valley to South Bank. Moreton Bay bugs (not actual bugs but slipper lobsters) are one of Brisbane's signature dishes. South Bank is also a fantastic place to get great views of the city and find plenty of things to do for free. You can even visit koalas, kangaroos and other Australian wildlife at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.

Getting to the city center

Flights from Sydney to Brisbane land in Brisbane Airport, which serves as the main airport for the city and Southeast Queensland. Getting to hotels in the central business district can be done comfortably by booking a Con-X-ion airport transfer. For public transportation, you can take the T-Bus (free of charge) to Skygate, then transfer to Translink bus 590. This will take you to the Toombul Shopping Centre. From here you can take a train to the city. Airtrain also provides links to South Bank, and stops at all stations in between there and Brisbane Airport, including Eagle Junction, Brisbane Central, Fortitude Valley and Roma Street.
