Flights from Sydney
The ever-charming city of Sydney is home to Sydney Airport–an award-winning Australian airport known for its world-class service. The airport's early beginnings date back to 1919 when it was initially established as an aerodrome before offering passengers regular flights to Melbourne and Adelaide.
Over the years, Sydney Airport has grown to become one of the country's most important airports. It operates flights from Sydney to Cairns and other Australian cities as well as to international destinations. Routine air services operate from the international terminal (T1) and two domestic terminals (T3 is operated by Qantas for their domestic and regional flights).
Directions to Sydney airport
Sydney Airport is conveniently located just 8 km south of the CBD with plenty of ways to get there. Local buses running between Bondi Junction and Burwood have stops at T1 and T3. Hailing a taxi on the street is possible, but for your own peace of mind you may want to book before you intend to leave just to make the journey less stressful. The fastest way to get to the airport is via Airport Link, which provides a quick and direct method of transportation to all of the terminals in Sydney Airport.
Reaching Cairns
The Great Barrier Reef is Queensland's pride and joy, and Cairns provides the gateway to it. The city is often used as a base for visiting the Daintree Rainforest where you'll find diverse and delightful displays of rare plants and animals. Don't forget the Atherton Tablelands, where you can watch platypus and go on Charley's Chocolate Tour. Have breakfast with the world's cuddliest marsupials, the koalas, and feed crocodiles at Hartley's Crocodile Adventures. Frolic in the lush Flecker Botanic Gardens on your downtime then take part in learning about the world's oldest continuous living culture at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park.
Getting to the city center
Flights to Cairns land in Cairns Airport. From there you can take your transport of choice to the city. Pre-booking is not mandatory for guests to take the airport shuttle bus to the city centre, hotels and northern beaches. All you have to do is proceed to the shuttle bus booth (it's orange) at the domestic terminal and wait at the pick-up point. Sun Palm Transport operates a bus service called Airport Connect from the airport to the Translink public transport network at the Sheridan Street bus stops. Additionally, there are also sheltered taxi ranks at the front of each passenger terminal where you can catch a taxi.
