Flights from Cairns
The laid-back city of Cairns is the gateway to Queensland's tropical north. Travellers from all over the world come here to enjoy the great outdoors and visit the Great Barrier Reef. Flights to the city arrive at the Cairns Airport. International destinations include Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Philippines.
Cairns Airport also handles flights to the rest of Australia, including direct flights from Cairns to Sydney. It has two passenger terminals: the international terminal and the domestic terminal. Each is a completely separate building with their own food outlets and retail options. Free Wi-Fi is available in both buildings as well.
Directions to Cairns airport
Cairns Airport is located in the suburb of Aeroglen, 7 km north of the Cairns central business district. Sun Palm operates daily airport transfers to the city, Northern Beaches and Port Douglas. Book online or make arrangements as soon as you land at any one of the welcome desks located in the domestic and international arrival terminals.
For taxis, pre-booking is possible. This isn't necessary though as they are always available from the sheltered taxi ranks at the front of each terminal. You can also take the Airport Connect from the airport to the Translink public transport network at the Sheridan Street bus stops.
Reaching Sydney
Sydney is the famed state capital of New South Wales and home to some of the world's most recognisable landmarks. The Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge are obvious yet must-see attractions, however the city has a lot more to offer! Be sure to catch one of its internationally acclaimed performances at any of its premier venues and don't miss out on viewing the galleries and museums.
The city also boasts beautiful parks and countless laid-back beaches offering water sport activities in pristine waters. Love to shop? Go wild in Sydney's shopping centres, 19th century arcades and outdoor markets.
Getting to the city center
Travelling from Cairns to Sydney means you'll land at the Sydney Airport. The two terminal buildings are located separately, so the T-Bus shuttle bus service provides transfers between the T1 international and T2/T3 domestic terminals. Outside the arrivals level of each of these terminals are bus stops where you can take a bus to the city. Another transport option is Airport Link's fast train service to and from the airport and the city centre. The trip only takes about 15 minutes.
Door-to-door shuttle services can be booked at the airport's new ground transport travel desks located at the arrivals lounges of T1 and T2. These can be pre-arranged online before your scheduled arrival.
