Going to and from the airports

Flights from Melbourne

Melbourne proudly holds the title as Australia's sporting and cultural capital. In addition to being loved for its iconic laneways and wineries, it also hosts the country's second busiest passenger airport - Melbourne Airport. This is one of the major airports in the country and is open 24/7.

Melbourne Airport connects this dynamic city to the rest of Australia and the world. Domestic flights from Melbourne Airport, including flights from Melbourne to Perth, depart and arrive from terminal 1, 3 or 4. There is a terminal 2 but it's only used for international flights. The airport terminal you go to will depend on which airline you're flying with.

Directions to Melbourne airport

Melbourne Airport is approximately 22 km northwest of the central business district. One of the quickest ways to the airport is to take the SkyBus Express, which runs between Southern Cross Station and terminals 1, 3 and 4. Taxi and Uber are also viable options.

As for local buses, these will take you to the Melbourne Airport Bus Interchange. Route 482 runs from Airport West Shopping Centre to the airport via South Centre Road. Route 478 departs from the same shopping centre and goes through Melrose Drive, while Route 479 goes through Sunbury Station. Smartbus' Route 901 will take you to the airport via Broadmeadows Railway Station.

Reaching Perth

Perth is a vibrant Australian city where some of the best beaches in the world can be found. Don't believe us? See for yourself as you gaze upon the sands of Turquoise Bay, Cable Beach or Eighty Mile Beach. Also worth a visit is a charming shopping arcade called London Court, with its quaint shops and unique architectural features that capture a setting reminiscent of Tudor England. Recreational activities can be found almost anywhere in the city and its surrounding areas. Most notable are Burswood Park, Hillary's Boat Harbour, the Western Australian Museum and Perth Arena.

Getting to the city center

Domestic flights to Perth will land at Perth Airport where you'll arrive at terminal 2, 3 or 4. Again, this depends on which airline you're flying with. Various transport options make it easy for arriving travellers to get to their hotel or other destination of choice within the city.

Bus Route 380 offers daily services between T2/T1 and the Elizabeth Quay station at the southern edge of Perth's central business district. Bus Route 40 takes a direct route from the T3/T4 precinct to the city via the Great Eastern Highway. Taxis and car rentals are also readily available at the airport. Dedicated pick-up areas for Uber rideshare can be found in all terminals.

Why does it have to be so far to get from the front door of the airport to the gate. Thankgoodness OI ordered a wheelchair as there was no way I coud have walked it - like I had to do on the return trip - beacuse I got sick of waiting for the buggy driver to do his/her job - drive the buggy. And I was exhausted after walking from the plane to the gate with a walking stick and hand luggage. NEVER AGAIN.
