Flights from Porto
Porto, "The Unvanquished City", follows Lisbon as Portugal's second largest city. It is also home to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport–the second busiest airport in the country in terms of passengers. In 2010 it reached a milestone by serving 5 million passengers in a year for the very first time.
Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport has one runway and one passenger terminal that handle domestic and international flights, including flights from Porto to Madrid. Should you have the need to go online you can easily connect to the airport's free unlimited Wi-Fi! The terminal also contains conference facilities, VIP lounges, retail stores, duty free shops and plenty of places to grab a bite or drink.
Directions to Porto airport
Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is located 11 km north of Porto's city centre. Metro Line E, the purple line, provides quick and reliable access from nearly everywhere in the city to the airport. STCP and Resende buses also provide connections between the city and the airport, with the former operating an all-nighter service.
Shuttle companies such as Barquense, GetBus, Ovnitur Viagens, Transdev and Autna offer regular connections to the airport. Goin'Porto in particular is a low cost service that can take you from various parts of downtown Porto straight to the airport. Taxis are available 24/7.
Reaching Madrid
Madrid's nightlife is something you must experience at least once. Cocktail bars, live venues and dance clubs typically run very late into the night so you can party like there's no tomorrow! Entertainment areas include Huertas, Malasaña, La Latina, Avenida de Brasil and of course the gay neighbourhood Chueca.
The city also hosts a collection of cultural and art venues. Prime examples of places featuring European art are the Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and Centro de Arte Reina Sofia. Religious artwork can be seen in the Basilica de San Francisco, but if you want to escape the city's hustle and bustle you could simply unwind at Buen Retiro Park in the heart of Madrid.
Getting to the city center
Flights from Porto arrive at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport–one of the largest airports in Europe. On the first floor of terminal 4 there's a train station called Aeropuerto T4. From here railway company RENFE operates the "Cercanías" C1 line to the city. Also in terminal T4 are two metro stations. If you'd rather take the bus there are stops throughout all the terminals. Exprés Aeropuerto or the Airport Express (line 203) runs to the Atocha Train Station. Near the arrivals and departures terminals there is a Trenitalia railway station with frequent service to the city centre. Leonardo Express provides non-stop service to the Rome Termini railway station.
