Flights from Istanbul to Thira - Santorini

Istanbul, a city with fantastic landmarks and breath-taking views, is one of the most popular destinations in Turkey. It is served by Atatürk Airport, which in terms of destinations reached, aircraft movements and number of passengers, is the largest airport in the country. In 2015 it was recognised as the "Most Improved Airport" at the ACI ASQ Awards, and also won the "Second Best Airport in South Europe" in the 2009 SKYTRAX World Airport Awards. Atatürk Airport operates international and domestic flights in two separate terminals. One of the many international routes it handles are flights from Istanbul to Santorini.

Atatürk Airport was built in the neighbourhood of Ye?ilköy, about 23 km to the west of Istanbul's city centre. There are plenty of ways to get from the city to the airport, public transportation included. Havata? airport buses run to the airport from Taksim Square. The bus stop is located in front of The Point Hotel. IETT express city bus 96T also operates from Taksim Square to the airport. Private transfer services are available for those coming from the Beyo?lu district. Other than these options, you can also get to the airport by Metro or by taxi.

Despite being the largest island of an archipelago in the southern Aegean Sea, Santorini is actually quite small, however it still has a lot to offer its visitors! Santorini is best known for gorgeous sunset views from the towns on the caldera side, particularly Fira, Ia, Firostefani Imerovigli. On the other side, the towns feature beautiful beaches and a laidback atmosphere.

Each town on Santorini also has its own unique attraction. Head on over to Pyrgos for fantastic restaurants or to Vothonas to marvel at unique architecture. At Nea Kameni you can go hiking and swim in hot springs or taste the wines of Pyrgos Kallistis.

Flights to Santorini from Istanbul arrive at Santorini Airport. The island is quite small and the only mode of public transportation available are buses that run to the capital Fira. Note that buses from the airport do not run regularly, so check the schedule posted outside the terminal. The buses also do not run across the whole of the island, but rather to the main bus station in Fira. From there, you can transfer to another bus that runs to your preferred destination. Renting a car is another option, since car hire companies have desks right at Santorini Airport. Private and shared transfers are available as well.
